[03 - Video] Acquire

[The video starts with Tammy sitting cross-legged on her bed, wearing her Christmas sweater, her Furby perched on the bed beside her with it's eyes closed, a small clay statue sitting near it as well. She really needs to look into getting some shelves or something. And though she smiles, there's a clear dark worry in her eyes as she addresses the journal.]

Don't know about the rest of you but if I can manage it I'm going to be sleeping with the lights on for a while. Think maybe Lord D-bag just forgot to pay the electric bill? Least it came back on in time for us all to appreciate our gifts.

[Tammy will wear this with no shame. It's COLD HERE.]

Anyway, I know it's not really in keeping with the spirit of the season--better to give and all--but I was wondering if anyone had any vellum? Or any idea where I can find green glitter?

[That bit of business out of the way, Tammy rubs her palms against he knees before leaning closer to her journal, frowning a bit now to match the concern in her eyes.]

Hey, Doc? You okay out there?

{OOC: As a side note, Keep, if you go into the kitchens looking for prune juice anytime soon...you're going to find the stores a bit depleted. At least until who is in charge replaces the three liters she took.}

A-Ah yes, nothing I haven't dealt with before.

[He gives a bit of a yawn. Most of his time spent in solitude was spent sleeping, until the hunger kept him up.]

I do hope whatever had gone wrong is being sorted out, now. I hate to imagine what exactly had caused all of this. Still, I think these gifts are more than proper compensation! Don't you think?

Doc, we really need to get you somewhere relaxing and tropical for a vacation. If that isn't the first time you've been in the dark for days on end, then your life is entirely too stressful.

And I figure the return of the light is a sign that whatever it was passed, knock on wood. But yeah, the gifts are pretty neat. Been teaching your Furby any new words?

That sounds pleasant! I've never been anywhere tropical, but have heard about the types of flora that can grow there. Er, well I've read about them at least. And I wouldn't say the dark, so much as simply being isolated for days on end. My Furby? Is that the name of this little creature? I wasn't aware I could input my own knowledge into it, as far as language goes.

I've never been anywhere tropical either, myself, but the pictures of it always look really bright and relaxing. And after the week we've had that sounds pretty damned appealing.

But yeah, you can teach them words. You turn them on by talking to them or touching them, I don't know. I think if it's eyes are open it's on. And it'll pick up words and such. You can teach them their names, is my understanding, but I don't know for sure.

Oh, and they'll talk to one another.

Studiously labouring towards that dismissal, are we?

Buckling down like this is a midterm that my grade hinges on.

Though I had to look up what the hell vellum is.

It's not been feeling very energetic lately. Even by it's minimal standards.

Doesn't really matter why it's quiet; I'm just going to enjoy the silence while I can.

I'm not resting on my heels here, I'm still working on the materials; I've no doubt the manipulative bastard will rear it's head again, and sooner than I'd like.

Oh sure, it's great fun, not having complete control over my life and body, and tricking people into losing their souls to their whims. I'm having a blast.

Ugh, it collects souls too? Can it get any more passée?

According to it, it's the only food it can consume. Prior to coming here I've never met another djinn so I've pretty much been forced to believe it's word.

You obviously got a djinni that's touched in the essence. Foliots and imps are the mainstays. Only Jabor makes a habit of eating other djinni. I consider it a professional discourtesy.

What's a Jabor?

An unpleasant and unintelligent showing of essence that barely classifies as a djinni. Thick as a brick, but he could always be counted on to fall for every trick in the book.

He and your head parasite would get along swimmingly.

Think Jabor would eat mine if we gave him the chance?

Without question or hesitation. There are only two problems with that: First, he would eat you as well; second, he disappeared into a rift of space itself and is not expected back. Ever.

[That's what happens when you take on Bartimaeus. Because he... totally... planned to have Lovelace summon a higher being that would rend the very fabric of reality and create a suction that he could then trick Jabor into standing too close to, thus defeating him.]

[Aw ,Barti, she would almost think you care.]

A rift of space? Like a black hole? Or something my feeble human sciences hasn't been able to categorize and label yet?

[A terrible delusion to have, Tammy.]

The kind of rift that happens when you try to put sixty marbles into a cloth bag that holds only thirty.

[A dry summation. Higher beings have so much essence that they basically cause the world to implode.]

Couldn't have given the dude a bigger bag? As a professional courtesy, I mean.

[He snorts. That would be a 'no'.]

I'm not the one that blew the summoning horn's high note. All I had to do was save the world from what happened afterwards.

Yeah, I didn't figure you for the hero type, unless there was someone behind you prodding you along on your epic journey.

Heroics are overrated and never accurately credited. Do you think I enjoy risking my essence for the good of mankind?

Who knows? You could have masochist or martyr tendencies that I don't know about.
